Brake shoe replacement tips

  • It is very important when replacing brake shoes not to damage the wheel cylinder
  • If not using new OEM brake shoes, they should be measured to verify that they meet the minimum service limit. ( using brake shoes with the linings smaller than the minimum service limit can force the pistons to extend beyond the cylinder sealing surface causing brake fluid leakage.)
  • Always install the hold down pin (10) and the retaining spring (11) before installing the return springs (8,9) (trying to force the shoes on to the cylinder with the springs installed can cause damage to the wheel cylinder.)
